Cinemark & The Expendables Marathon

I love movie marathons. I love checking out of my life, even though it’s wonderful, for a day at the cinema.

The Expendables Marathon

* Cinemark (sadly nowhere near me) is having an Expendables marathon on August 14th with the individual movies at 3:15, 5:05, and 7 respectively. They know how to do marathons right. To wit, regular hot dogs and Dibs are only $2 each during the marathon.

* Also Cinemark appears to sell a refillable drink cup and popcorn bucket that can be used on multiple trips to the theater at a $1 a refill. I think this is a fabulous idea that I would love to take advantage of at our local theaters.

* Cinemark has the $1 kids movies during the summer a la Regal but they offer the purchase of a ten pack of tickets for it at the discounted price of $5

* Cinemark has weekly coupons, Seniors day, Family day, and several other consumer friendly programs. Other cinemas could definitely learn a few things from them.

End of Summer – A Few More that I Enjoyed

Having covered my five favorites yesterday, here are the rest of the movies I enjoyed this summer:

Brave: I enjoyed Brave but did not find it to be a Pixar classic a la Toy Story, Up, Finding Nemo, and Wall-E. The animated short preceding the film is wonderful and Brave is a lot of fun.

Ted: I found Ted to be hilarious even though there were way too many fart jokes. Too crass and commercial but Wahlberg and Kunis are very likeable and I appreciated the running Flash Gordon gag.

Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted: This was surprisingly enjoyable. I will add the caveat that I do set the bar lower when I’m watching a film my granddaughter enjoys so this may not be that good but we had a lot of fun.

Men in Black III: This just narrowly missed my best of summer post. Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are enjoyable as always but it is Josh Brolin’s portrayal of a young Agent K that seals the deal.

The Expendables 2: The film that capped off the summer. The Expendables 2 is a lot better than the first one. The Expendables 2 pokes a lot of fun at the cast – only the villains Jean-Claude Van Damme and Scott Adkins appear to be taking it seriously. Willis and Schwarzenegger have much bigger roles this time including action scenes. Jet Li’s role is reduced but they added Chuck Norris to the cast.

* I would have enjoyed The Expendables 2 anyway but my daughter won me a Chuck Norris autographed poster. I can’t wait to frame it and put it in my movie room.

Weekend This ‘n’ That – FREE The Expendables 2 & The Bourne Legacy

* I’m looking forward to tomorrow when I get to catch the last of the summer movies. I have two FREE tickets to The Expendables 2 and one FREE ticket to The Bourne Legacy so I’m going to make a day of it.

* FREE The Expendables 2 tickets are available on select Blu-Rays at Best Buy: Universal Soldier, RED, Red Heat, CopLand, Transporter 3, The Expendables, Rambo, Rambo: First Blood, War, Kickboxer, T-2: Skynet edition, Hostage, Black Mask, Crank, Bank job, and Total Recall (earlier version). The Blu-Rays are currently $10

* FREE The Bourne Legacy tickets are available on select Blu-Rays at Best Buy: Fast & Furious 1-4, Bourne Identity, Bourne Supremacy, Bourne Ultimatum, Scorpion King 2, and The Mummy. I got The Mummy because it was cheaper than the others.

* Speaking of summer movies, the one I missed was Snow White and the Huntsman. Strangely Universal decided, instead of two more sequels with Kristen Stewart, they are going to make a spinoff with Chris Hemsworth’s Huntsman and drop Snow White. Apparently the fallout from Stewart’s affair and her top dollar price fresh off the Twilight series actually had an impact.

* Upcoming FREE movie ticket promos include Sparkle, Finding Nemo 3-D, Taken 2, Skyfall, and The Hobbit.

* Joining the Netflix streaming family this year will be Sweden, Norway, Finland, & Denmark. World domination is only a few clicks away.

* The wonderful Netflix for Kids option on the Xbox 360 and PS3 apparently annoys some people. I’m not sure why the option to turn off wasn’t selectable but Netflix states that the Kids options will eventually disappear if it is not used.
