Avengers Assemble!

Obviously one of the movies that I am most looking forward to this year is Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Avengers: Age of Ultron

Well, I got my wish. They are doing a double feature of Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron. The double feature is playing on Thursday, April 30th. It is even playing at the Biltmore Grande in Asheville at 4:15 (time for your theater may vary). The double feature is offered through many theater chains, including Regal, AMC, and Cinemark.

So why am I bummed? Because I’m spoiled. I’ll be at the Biltmore Grande double feature and will enjoy it quite a bit. However this is what I want to see:

Ultimate Marvel Marathon

Now that is a marathon. Regal lists the run time as clocking in at 23 hours and 59 minutes. Unfortunately it is only being shown in 8 locations. AMC will be showing it in Downtown Disney (Orlando), Downtown Disney (Anaheim), Lincoln Square (New York), and AMC Studio 28 (Kansas City).

6:00 pm Iron Man

8:25 pm The Incredible Hulk

10:35 pm Iron Man 2

1:00 am Thor

3:10 am Captain America: The First Avenger

5:30 am The Avengers

8:48 am Iron Man 3

11:15 am Thor: The Dark World (aka time to catch a nap)

1:45 pm Captain America: The Winter Soldier

4:20 pm The Guardians of the Galaxy

7:00 pm Avengers: Age of Ultron

Netflix, The Killing, & Theater Seating

The Killing

* After coming up with a superb coda to the Arrested Development series, Netflix has rescued The Killing from oblivion. The Killing will receive a final season on Netflix consisting of six episodes. While I like the ten to thirteen episode model, someone realized that The Killing could benefit from streamlining so those meandering subplots have likely been paired away. Both Joel Kinnamon and Mireille Enos could use the boost as Joel Kinnamon starred in the pointless Robocop reboot and Mireille Enos joined an ensemble cast in the horrendous Sabotage.

So what series to rescue next Netflix? No, obviously they can’t have Firefly – Nathan Fillion is doing just fine on Castle and Joss Whedon has The Avengers 2.

AMC Seating

* Now that all of the new theaters are finally having the soda fountain outside of concessions (YAY!), the latest trend seems to be improved theater seating. Check out these fully extendable lounges in the new AMC set up (above).

Chairs

The loungers above here are Carolina Cinemas new ones – listed for the Charlotte location but one can hope for my Asheville one. I like their current couches and footstools but my wife finds them uncomfortable.

FREE Movie Tickets – Machete Kills Carrie Escape Plan

Yay a good wave of FREE movie tickets has just hit including a one-day only ticket.

Machete Kills

* Machete Kills did not debut very well. AMC is offering a buy one ticket, get one FREE coupon on Machete Kills (coupon can be readily found online). Regal has upped that with a buy one ticket, get one FREE and get a FREE small popcorn with EACH ticket (no coupon needed). The caveat is that this is only good on Saturday, October 19th. Check with your local theater as this may be a nationwide promotion for most theaters.

Escape Plan

* Stallone and Schwarzenegger return in Escape Plan today. FREE tickets for this movie may be found on select copies of Red heat, Total Recall, The Expendables, The Expendables 2, The Cold Light of Day, Dredd, The Last Stand, Safe, T2, Sin City, Red, Man on a Ledge, Haywire, and the Rambo series of Blu-Rays at Best Buy.

Carrie

* The Carrie remake also opens today. FREE tickets to that may be scored off select copies of Amityville Horror (either), Carrie (original), Child’s Play, Donnie Darko, Haunting of Molly Hartley, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Jeepers Creepers, Kalifornia, Last House on the Left (original), Mirrors, The Omen (either), Poltergeist II, Return of the Living Dead, Species, Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2

Catch the Oscar Films Locally – Regal and AMC

Fresh off their Die Hard marathon, Regal Cinemas is offering a number of Oscar marathons

On Friday 2/15, Sunday (2/17), Tuesday (2/19), and Thursday (2/21), Regal is offering

12 noon Beasts of the Southern Wild

1:50 Life of Pi

4:20 Les Miserables

7:20 Amour

9:50 Lincoln

On the intermediate days Saturday (2/16), Monday (2/18), and Wednesday (2/20), Regal is offering

12:15 Django Unchained

3:20 Silver Linings Playbook

5:45 Zero Dark Thirty

8:45 Argo

A two-day pass is $50, a one-day pass is $30. With either pass you get a coupon to get a medium soda and popcorn for $5

We don’t have an AMC theater locally but they are doing a similar marathon.

On Saturday 2/16, AMC is offering Amour, Les Miserables, Argo, and Django Unchained for $30

On Saturday 2/23, AMC is offering Beasts of the Southern Wild, Life of Pi, Lincoln, Silver Linings Playbook, and Zero Dark Thirty for $40

Select AMC theaters will also have a stamina marathon, showing all nine films beginning at 10 a.m. on 2/23 and running until about 10 a.m. Sunday morning. Even I am not that hardcore. Besides which, even if you made it through that one-day marathon, how would you be in any shape to watch the Oscars that evening?

As usual AMC is offering various buck promotions through its Stubs program. Not having an AMC theater, I can’t really comment on their Stubs program.
