August Netflix Wave Brings the Heat

A new month always brings a slew of new options to Netflix and August is no exception.

As usual horror gets the lion’s share. Amityville II: The Possession, Voices, Creepshow, Silver Bullet, Stephen King’s Thinner, The Relic, The Vanishing and Graveyard Shift – they all stream down here.

Many of the After Dark films have also appeared including: The Deaths of Ian Stone, Nightmare Man, Tooth and Nail, Borderland, Crazy Eights, and Dying Breed.

Science fiction and fantasy options include: The Avengers (sorry not that one – the 1998 one), Sphere, Battlefield Earth, Demolition Man, The Incredible Mr. Limpet, Superman II, Quest for Fire, From Time to Time, Somewhere in Time and Small Soldiers.

New TV options include 30 for 30, Alphas, Crash, Hell on Wheels and the third season of Warehouse 13.

For British procedurals, you can’t do much better than the Prime Suspect series. All seven of the Jane Tennison series are supposed to be streaming but only three are up at the moment. Since it is 2, 4, and 6 perhaps you should wait until the others show up. While they are individual stories, the order is important. Helen Mirren has never been better.

Even music fans get a little love this month with Empire Records, Under the Cherry Moon, Auntie Mame, Stomp the Yard: Homecoming and Little Shop of Horrors.

For both of you Troma fans out there, Surf Nazis Must Die, Class of Nuke em High, Tromeo & Juliet, Cannibal: The Musical!, and the first four installments of the Toxic Avenger series are now available.
